We all remember the changes imposed by the Post Office in 2009 for the mailing of Booklets. A summary of those changes include: the prohibition of perforations on tabs, a new minimum size tab of 1-1/2", and in most instances the use of three tabs per booklet.
On August 15, 2011, the Postal Service published a Federal Register proposed rule for changes to the design and construction of folded self-mailers and unenveloped mailpieces. To simplify the requirements that apply to tabs that can be used to seal unenveloped letter-sized mailpieces, DMM 201.3.11 is modified to include folded self-mailers.
Effective date of these revisions is January 5, 2013.
Some of the changes which will affect our wafer seal customers can be found under the Sealing Methods and Sealing Requirements. Minimum of 2 tabs will be required; glue may be used as an alternate sealing method. Tabs must be non-perforated, and have a minimum diameter of 1". The actual number and size of the tabs required will be determined by the weight and design of the mailing.
